"A" is for "Absent"
The
Letter of the Day is
"A".
"A" is for Absent. While the serpent's away, the mice will play. Like I just did when I posted the Letter of the Day over at Electric Venom.
(That mean's I'm a guest poster over at Kate's place.)
(This post almost came out as a rhyme. You can thank me later for my restraint.)

I will note this on the big thermometer I keep in my office. Once you fill it up then you'll be invited to my party.
Either that or cookies as we discussed.

How about pinch rolls? Lovely Wife makes some fantastic pinch rolls.

Funny that Z is for Zephyr and Zephyr Teachout is one of the posters to Dean's blog. She also happens to be an old classmate and team mate when I ran cross country all those years ago.
And yes, she was a better runner than I was and probably still is. How could you have a name like Zephyr and not run like the wind?

Well, it could be a joke name. Like "Tiny" Lister or some amputee with a nickname like "Lefty". Or any of the Jacksons being called "Classy".

You will bow down before me, y'all. I swear it, no matter that it takes an eternity!
Your resistance is futile for I am the King of Cheeses!
Your cheese rating is: Stilton

The King of cheeses. Stilton is a rich, tangy cheese with blue/grey marbled mould veins running throughout, and a dry, crusty, inedible rind. Daniel Defoe mentioned Stilton as "a town famous for its cheeses" in 1727. It is milder than is continental counterparts, Roquefort and Gorgonzola, and is famed as a dessert cheese, best served with Port.
What's your cheese rating?
(Filched from Rob)

No searchie searchie here, but I have two guesses, both from the same timeframe so forgive my brain for not being able to make the connection. It's from either Flash Gordon or Superman.
Posted by: Clancy at February 04, 2004 02:47 PM (EGVPL)
2
Dang. That was much faster than i was expecting. Yup,
Superman (aka
Superman: The Movie) is the answer. General Zod's tirade at Jor-El. Three points for Clancy.
The vote must be unaminous, Jor-El. The decision of the Council is now yours. You alone can condemn us if you wish, and you alone will I hold responsible.
You've been known to disagree with the Council, before. Join us! You could become an important voice in my New Order, second only to my own. I offer you a chance for greatness, Jor-El! Take it!
You will bow down before me, Jor-El! I swear it! No matter that it takes an eternity!
You will bow down before me, and then - one day - your heirs!!

That one puts Clancy alone at the top of the Snooze Points leader board.
Don't be too jealous, y'all. He's still a
Babybell

Babybell - yuck! (Actually - I've never tried it.) And it could have been worse - I might also be a "Kadchgall" - Kadchgall is a hard cheese from Afghanistan. It is made with sheeps milk, or occasionally camels milk, clotted with yoghurt. This is all very weird...
As for the points - Whoo hooo!!! I'll have to use my point leader status as part of a tagline or something...

Babybell is for people who think gouda is too intense. ;-)

Time's a wastin'!
Man, I hate
these things. I'm a sucker for deceptively simple looking games that prove complex and disturbingly interesting. This one seems really simple. Click on the block in the middle and drag it around to avoid the other blocks flying around. But then you start seeing developing patterns and an odd symmetry and the next thing you know 10 minutes have gone by.
Bah! I'm through with these things!
Well, maybe just one more time...

What the hell does that mean?
The 'what' I refer to is of course "XSET". I want to know what it means, and
so does Rob. He's offering valuable prizes including XSET points(tm) and an all expense paid trip to your own kitchen to the three people with the best explanations for just what the heck XSET is supposed to mean.
I've put in a couple but my brain hurts now and I can't come up with any more. My first inclination was (of course) to let it go at this point and wait to collect my valuable prizes. But, seeing as I'm trying to put up this facade of me as a kind and caring fellow I figured it would go a bit better for that image if I helped out a bit and clued y'all into the contest.
You can submit as many times as you want, your suggestions don't have to be that close to XSET and you have until Feb 22 to enter. Go forth and name that site.

43% Yankee, thank you very much. I think it was the "Rolling" that lowered my score.

44%
I'm actually surprised it's still this high. In the last 5 years, I've lived in 4 different states - all of them south of Masie-Dixie.

45% (Yankee). There are traces of Yankee in you.
Is this good or bad?
Posted by: Tiffani at January 27, 2004 01:35 PM (0i1dP)
7
It's not too bad, Tiffani. Traces of yankee can be removed with consumption of suitable amounts of grits and/or collard greens. If you're willing to take these measures then you have nothing to worry about. If you let it fester though you'll find your yankitude growing beyond your ability to correct it.

35% Yankee. Most of my answers were common to the Great Lakes region. What a surprise!

Wow! 38% yankee, and I have lived in Texas for over 20 years now, I guess old habits are hard to break.

Good God! I scored on 49%!!! I was born and raised in Maine! To be fair tho, I haven't lived there since I was 19 - which is way too long ago - so maybe 49% is still good. It must really be something to listen to me - tawkin' bout takin' my cah down thaya to tha brew thru for a pop or a beya, ya'll! Yeah, I've lived all over the US courtesy of the US Navy so I tend to be a hybrid of it all.

49% Yankee.
Erm...
Mind you, I crashed and burned on the first question:
How do you pronounce Aunt?
o Like the word want
o Like the word ant
o Like the word caught
o I pronounce them all the same
In Australia (and, I think, England) all of these have different vowel sounds. Apparently, there are more vowels in Australian english than in U.S. english.
Oh, and the tiny lobster that crawls around in creek bottoms is a yabbie.

Just a thought: Why are the Symphonies posted on Mondays? There's so much good stuff to read, but Monday evenings -- for most of us -- don't supply enough time to peruse the large batch of bloggy goodness. I keep of the commercial where the gal says "Sunday was made for the New York Times." I think that if the Symphonies were posted at 7:00am on Sundays alot more readers would have the time to spend -- over coffee and english muffins -- relaxing and reading through the Best Of Us.
Granted, we have a week to get through it all, but I think most would like to meet it all in one sitting and then move on. Just a thought for what it's worth.

It's not really going to be about sharks with frickin' laser beams on their foreheads, but it's something I've been dealing with since about June of last year -- and I'm pretty stoked because I finally (FINALLY) have a solution.

Are you looking at my bum? Cheeky monkey!
Have any of you not yet been to
Simon World? You really should check it out. Simon is well writen, attractive, and highly available for hetero or homosexual encounters. Looking for tall, dark and handsome? That's him. Short and built like a greco-roman wrestler? He's your guy. He's got humor, deep insightful commentary, and he opens windows for your mind. Unless you don't like that, in which case he's all about short and easy to understand humor. Or whatever else you're looking for.
[What's that? I can't say all that? Why not? Oh, yeah...right.]
It's been pointed out to me that as Simon is not in fact all things to all people, that I may be creating a false image in your head that he cannot possibly match, which will in turn cause you to not enjoy your experience when you go to his site and since that's pretty much 180 degrees off of the intent of this post it's not exactly the best way to pimp promote his site. Guess I've been following the Democratic Party hopefuls too closely and my worldview has been skewed. Here's the factual blurb:
Have any of you not yet been to Simon World? You really should check it out. Simon's an Aussie in Hong Kong with a lovely wife (not my Lovely Wife, of course) and kids (not my kids either) and another on the way. Humor, slice of life, a window into the world of Hong Kong; all of these and more are yours for the taking at his site. You can also help him name his baby and win fabulous prizes including a lear jet and your own private villa.
[You again? What now? Oh, okay.]
No lear jet.
